Female Graduates Success

A report from the Equal Opportunities Commission states that there are an increasing number of graduates that are finding it difficult to get the job that they wanted after university.  The report has found that highly-educated women are twice as likely to end up in a low-paid job with nearly one in eight female graduates becoming employed as receptionists or nursery nurses rather than in professional or management roles.

The report found that 17% of female post-graduates were employed as secretaries, 11% as sales assistants, 5% in elementary jobs and another 5% in personal service, which include hairdressing and childcare.

This situation is particularly harrowing for those with heavy debts, such as student loans and overdrafts which need to be repaid.

Many critics claim that the reason behind women being unable to obtain the jobs they wanted after university is due to the lack of available jobs after women graduate.

With the government encouraging over 50% of young people to go on to higher education there are many students who end up finding themselves unable to obtain the job in the field they studied.

The report went on to state that 13.2% of women graduates are working in low-paid jobs, compared to 7.1% of male graduates.

The Equal Opportunities Commission blame employers for not providing enough flexibility for those with children making it difficult for mothers to work part-time and maintain their position.

However, the report also states that nearly half of all women graduates are childless by the age of 40 and are twice as likely not to have children due to the fact that they want to pursue their career and feel having children make it difficult for them to increase their prospects.

This news will come as no surprise to those who have been waiting for years to afford a home loan or start a family due to the high cost of living in today’s society.
